Social Work Practice With Carers: An Evidence Scope
Vic Citarella, March 2016
The Care Act 2014 sets out parity of esteem for carers. The principle of individual well-being
enshrined in the Act applies to all participants in a living relationship. The inherent
challenges to the professional practice of the individual social worker go to the
heart of future adult services – social care, health and housing.
The intent of the review is to collate the available evidence to support social work
practice with carers; making reference to academic literature, government policy
and examples of good practice. As well as searching for specific work relating to
carers the review was requested to encompass ways of working that support
relationship-based practice.
